EEO
Job Fair Scheduled
The first job fair for the year has been scheduled for June 21, 2003.
The event will start at 8:30 am and run until 3:00 pm. The location is the National Guard
Armory on Hamilton Street in Somerset, right near New Brunswick. Our second job fair will
be held this October at Montclair State University in conjunction with the New Jersey Ad
Club. This job fair will earn a station EEO credit as a co-sponsor. All of the job fair
information was sent to all stations at the beginning of the week. If you plan to
participate and want certified credit, you must send in your application now. We have to
know the number of stations participating to reserve the proper amount of booths. There is
no charge for the attendees or for the stations.
FCC
Cracks Down On Questionable Material
In a radical change of position, the FCC has demonstrated that it
will crack down hard on stations that broadcast questionable material. To make it easier
for listeners to make a complaint about individual stations, the commission has set up a
web site where filing a grievance is very easy. The idea is to encourage citizens who feel
offended to file complaint. Further, the commission has indicated that it will now fine
stations based upon each infraction of the rules within the same broadcast. This is a far
cry from the old system, wherein a complainant was required to have a transcript or a tape
of the infraction and file it along with a written complaint to the commission. Under the
new scheme, all a listener has to do is fill out a simple form on the FCC web site and
click submit.
In other enforcement action, the commission has urged that stations
be vigilant concerning the following public safety subjects: Tower Safety including
lighting, painting and registration; AM Tower Fences including locks on the fence; EAS
is your system working and does your staff understand how it works and finally; RF
radiation are you RF compliant? These are the
items the FCC inspectors are looking at, forewarned is forearmed.
