NJBA Partners With RAB

The New Jersey Broadcasters Association has entered into an agreement with the Radio Advertising Bureau to make 100 online sales training programs available to member stations. The lessons can be taken all at once, or over a several month period. It all depends on the student. The lessons are in 17 different modules and cover all there is to know about selling radio. Any member station can request lessons for their sales staff by simply contacting the NJBA office and sending in a check for $150.00 per student. The balance of the cost of the lessons is underwritten by the NJBA. Based on the RAB’s heralded Academy training program in Dallas, TX, the 17-module online course is designed to deliver sales training anytime and anywhere there is a computer with Internet connectivity. The online sessions provide an interactive learning experience including quizzes, roll-play and immediate feedback to sales managers. The program is now available.

Fire Silences Access.1 Stations

A fire at the transmitter building knocked three stations off the air in the middle of last week and destroyed radio equipment. The fire started in the transmitter building, last Wednesday night just after 10:30pm located just south of the Atlantic City Expressway toll plaza. WOND, WTKU, and the Shark were affected. The Shark was back on the air the next morning using a back up transmitter from Millennium’s Cat Country. John Ford, General Manager said, “The good news is it was just a transmitter site and noone was injured.” It took 18 Pleasantville and six Absecon fire fighters about five hours to douse the blaze.  Fire investigators determined the fire was electrical and no arson is suspected.

Double check the dates of your ABIP Contracts to make sure they are not about to expire. If they are, please contact the office immediately to request a new ABIP inspection. The day you sign your contract, you automatically have a 120 days of grace before any FCC inspector can come visit your station for a routine inspection. Once your inspection is concluded, you are prevented from suffering surprise routine inspections for a period of three years. Don’t let your ABIP inspection certificate expire. Renew today!
