NJ DHTS Big Buy
For NJ Stations Completed
Radio Stations all over the state have received big buys for the
Division of Highway Traffic Safetys Click It or Ticket
campaign. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the state almost half a
million dollars for a radio buy for three weeks in May. The buy is to include major New
York City and Philadelphia stations, as well as all of the stations in New Jersey that run
the Divisions NCSA traffic safety announcements.
Originally, the NHTSAs DC agency was proposing to buy New York City
and Philadelphia stations only, however, NJBA reminded the DHTS that our NCSA contract
called for NCSA stations to be bought, if there was any cash in the market.
NJBA was asked to plan a buy including NCSA NJ stations and to give
it the other agency to purchase. NJBA was
then asked to execute its plan and make the buy. The buy was completed yesterday...all
stations should have their orders.
Programmers Look To The Future
Major company executives
who were former programmers will be telling attendees at the 57th annual Mid
Atlantic States Conference how they went from the programming office to the executive
office. This is a great opportunity for programming people to take a look at their
long-term career paths and figure out how to get on the road to even greater successes. In
addition, Elvis Duran and the entire Z-Morning Zoo crew from Z-100 FM, will be on hand to
take show talent on a behind the scenes tour of the preparation involved in putting the
show together and getting it on the air each morning. Not only will you learn, you will
have the opportunity to ask all of the questions you want.

NAB Wants FCC To
Prohibit XMs Localism
XM Satellite Radio Company has been going around the country setting
up ground stations to fill in areas where the satellite signal has problems.
The FCC has given them temporary authority for these ground stations. Meanwhile, XM has
secured a patent on a process that would allow these ground stations to broadcast local
programming. The satellite service was licensed by the FCC to be a national service only.
The NAB has requested the FCC to issue permanent authority for these repeater stations
with a prohibition forbidding local programming of any kind.
