Now Is The Time To Reserve

The Mid Atlantic States Conference is just around the corner, June 2-3, 2003 at Caesars in Atlantic City. Last year, the Hotel was sold out. Attendees were forced to stay at other Hotels on the Boardwalk. Don’t let that happen to you. Reserve your rooms now by calling 1-800-443-0104.   Tell the operator you are with the New Jersey Broadcasters Conference to get the special rate of $99.00 per room.  Call today, so that you don’t suffer the “no rooms at the Inn” problem, and be forced to go to another Hotel at a much higher rate.

Broadcasters Dodge Spectrum Charge Bullet

Once again, the NAB has come through for broadcasters by quiet lobbying on Capitol Hill to eliminate a spectrum fee proposed by the President in his budget he presented to the Congress. The fee was removed after ten hours of debate in conference and was voted out in both the house and senate. President Bush is expected to sign it. Spectrum Fees are dead for this budget cycle but look for it to come up again next cycle as the deficit grows and Members of Congress cast about for sources of revenue.

Good Bye Greater Media

The Corporate offices of GM, located in East Brunswick are closing forever.  President and CEO, Peter Smyth will relocate headquarters to Boston. Greater Media was formed from the old Rosenmiller Bordes Company and has always been located in East or New Brunswick, NJ.  First on George Street, then Bayard Street and finally in it’s own building on Kennedy Blvd. When the company was formed, it owned WCTC AM in New Brunswick, and WESO in Southbridge, MA.   You will be missed.

 FCC Signals Indecency Crackdown

The FCC has charged Infinity Broadcasting, specifically the Diminski and Doyle Show on WKRK in Detroit with broadcasting indecent programming. Instead of the usual $7,00 fine, the Commission has leveled a $27,000 fine against the station and has specifically threatened the station with possible license revocation if they do it again. Infinity did not challenge the language used on the air, but instead challenged the constitutionality of the FCC’s generic definition of indecency. Diminski and Doyle achieved their fame in Trenton as evening drive hosts on NJ 101.5.

 NAB Committed

Eddie Fritts, President and CEO of the NAB has reaffirmed his commitment to a Fall Radio Show. This year the show will be held Oct 1 and 2, in Philadelphia. It’s the first time in a long time that the Radio Show has been in the Northeast.
