Channel
9 Looses Network
With the new merger of the
WB and UPN networks, Channel 9, New Jerseys only licensed VHF station will lose its
UPN affiliation. The new combined network will be on Channel 11 in New York City.
Fortunately, for WWOR-TV, the UPN Network only provided 3 hours of prime time programming
five days a week. This will cause a fairly big programming hole and require the station to
have to create new programming to fill the void. Several very important people in
government are watching to see if Channel 9 will create programming of interest to New
Jersey. This time will give the station the opportunity to put more news, New Jersey
public affairs and locally produced programming on the air. Important government people
are watching. The stations license is up for renewal in 2007.

Allen Lewicki, WAWZs
Director of Operations tells QuickNews that the station has joined forces with Press
Communication stations in a national Joint Sales Agreement. All of the stations will have
the same national rep and will be headed by a national sales manager. In some demos, the
combination is ranked #1 audience over all other New Jersey Stations. Robert McAllan of
Press tells QuickNews that the deal has been in the works for several months and
necessitated a change of rep sub firms. Formally, both Press and Millennium had the same
rep.

February
1 Deadline
New York and New Jersey
Stations were scheduled to place their annual EEO reports in their stations public
files and post the report on the stations website if the station has a web site.
Further, the report must show the stations compliance with the three prong out reach
requirements. Stations that subscribe to EEO1Source need simply to print out their report
from the program, place it in their Public File and on their web site. There is no work or
effort involved. Non participating stations must manually compile the information and have
placed it in their public file and on their website this past Wednesday. The two-year menu
options began for NJ station on February 1, 2004 and ended on January 31, 2006. If a
station has not complied, it is in serious FCC trouble and we advise contacting a FCC
lawyer immediately. If a station does not have regular FCC Council, NJBA Lawyer John
Garziglia will be glad to help.
