EEO Meeting
Scheduled
John F. Garziglia, Esq., NJBA Board Member and FCC Attorney, will be
conducting an EEO seminar to explain station requirements for the new EEO rules that go
into effect on March 10. The meeting will be held all morning Tuesday, March 4, 2003. John will cover the new record keeping
requirements of the rules as applied to stations that participate in the NJBA EEO Program.
For stations that do not participate, John will explain all the outreach requirements in
the new rules. The session will begin promptly at 9:00am, with continental breakfast
before the start. The meeting will conclude with a working luncheon. All stations
attending will have ample time to ask questions. The meeting is a member benefit, at no
charge to all current members. Non-member
admission will be $500.00, and is on a first come basis, with members receiving priority.
All persons responsible for hiring personnel and with record keeping should attend. The
meeting will be held in Central Jersey and will not be repeated in other parts of the
state. To make reservations, call the NJBA EEO Specialist, Debbie Scarano at

Scott Herman
Promoted
Scott Herman, one of broadcastings most talented people has been
promoted to Market Manager for Infinitys New York market. Having been with the company and its predecessors
for 25 years, Herman told Inside Radio that he is honored by the responsibility. Herman is a leader and certainly will inspire all
who report to him. Good guys finish first!
To Sue Or Not To
Sue
NJBA together with the other state associations will be meeting in
Washington, DC on Friday, March 21, 2003 to decide if the State Associations will once
again take the FCC to court over its EEO Rules. The
State Associations have a regularly scheduled meeting at that time and this item will be
first on the agenda. NASBA is concerned about
the FCCs authority to compete with the EEOC and make rules, and further, about the
paperwork burden that local stations would be subject too. Stay tuned.
Billing Ahead
For the third straight month in a row, Radio billings averaged
double-digit growth. According to the RAB, the growth for November was 10%. Local
contributed 7% and national a whopping 23%. Gary Fries, RAB Prez expects the trend to
continue for December. RAB is on a roll. The
Sales Conference in New Orleans, scheduled for the end of January, is running 150% ahead
of projections. The Hyatt, the convention
hotel, has been sold out for weeks. If you
plan to attend and do not have hotel accommodations, say hello to the Holiday Inn.
AFTRA Complains
Again
The union keeps trying to negotiate by law what it cannot get at the
bargaining table. This time, its voice tracking. Last
time non-competes.
